Swedish National Grid

The Swedish national grid for electricity consists of 15,000 km of power lines, about 160 substations and switching stations and 16 overseas connections. Via the national grid, the electricity from big power plants is transported to all local and regional networks in Sweden. National grid cables are the electrical system highways. We control the grid from our control room. Svenska kraftnät is the system operator for electricity in Sweden. It means that we have an overall responsibility to keep the balance between production and consumption of electricity. In order for the electrical system to work, there must always be a balance between the electricity produced and consumed.
