Zema and WGC Host Successful Lunch and Learn in Houston
August 14, 2012, Denver, Colorado -
August 14, 2012 – Richmond, B.C. – Zema PowerGroup Inc. (Zema) and Willis Group Consulting (WGC) joined forces last week to host a complimentary Dodd-Frank Lunch and Learn at Willy G’s Seafood and Steaks restaurant in Houston. Industry representatives learned more about the complexity of the Dodd-Frank Act, its implications on the energy, commodities and financial sectors; and, Zema’s Zema Dodd-Frank Solution that will help organizations deal with the challenges of Dodd-Frank.
At the heart of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act is the Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) process. This mandates organizations in the derivatives market to retain large amounts of data and to produce detailed, up-to-the-minute reports for Swap Data Repositories (SDRs), the CFTC or the SEC when required. To fulfill this requirement, companies may need to undergo extensive corporate restructuring of business processes. James Yu, Managing Director of ETRM and Dodd-Frank at WGC, has deep knowledge of regulations and energy trading risk management and provided an informative and detailed analysis of the key requirements of the Act and the ETL process, as well as the risks of non-compliance, in his presentation, The Landscape of the Dodd-Frank Legislation.
There was a guest panel made up of three representatives from the energy market. Mike Prokop, Director at Committee of Chief Risk Officers; Erin HunZemaker, Vice President of DTCC (a commodity specialist); and, Craig Enochs, a partner at Jackson Walker L.L.P, presented first-hand experience of interpreting the Act and how it affected their organizations. For the attendees this was an invaluable insight to how they might approach the transformations and challenges they are facing.
Waleed El-Ramly, COO of Product Development at Zema, introduced the Zema Dodd-Frank Solution; a comprehensive Dodd-Frank reporting and data management tool, developed in partnership with WGC. He gave the audience a demonstration of the solution that showcased the main features and how they handle the Dodd-Frank requirements effectively. “The Zema Suite already boasts superior data management and integration capabilities; therefore, the addition of a reporting feature to facilitate the ETL process was a natural fit for a Zema Dodd-Frank solution”, says El-Ramly.
