NetConnect Germany
NetConnect Germany was formed as of 1 October 2008 as a joint venture between the network companies bayernets GmbH and Open Grid Europe GmbH to implement the market area cooperation between the two companies. The cooperation was later expanded, with new shareholders joining the company and other market areas being integrated. As a result, the market area grew larger, providing more liquidity to the German gas market. Today under the umbrella of NetConnect Germany there cooperate the transmission system operators bayernets GmbH, Fluxys TENP GmbH, GRTgaz Deutschland GmbH, Open Grid Europe GmbH, terranets bw GmbH and Thyssengas GmbH and operate a common market area. The high-pressure pipeline system in Germany's largest market area now has a total length of approximately 20,000 km and connects about 500 downstream networks. In its role as market area manager NetConnect Germany GmbH & Co. KG (NetConnect Germany) handles the operational management of the market area cooperation. Its business activities involve the management of balancing groups and system balancing activities, the provision and operation of the market area's Virtual Trading Point, and the provision of data, for example settlement and balancing information.
